Our Origin Story
In June 2019, a group of thoughtful but fed up community members rallied their children, painted their placards and assembled for a peaceful demonstration outside the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council offices. They sang songs, banged drums, chanted, and held speeches in the hot sun all day long, refusing to leave until the council had met their one demand:
To acknowledge that humanity is in a climate emergency
MCA is making waves, the more members we have the more we can achieve.
The Nature Group explores ways we can help to reduce and manage climate change by conserving and improving the natural spaces and wildlife of the Staffordshire Moorlands. We aim to do this via natural carbon capture and biodiversity enhancement.
The information in the Energy section sets out ways to help you reduce the energy you use in your home via insulation and energy efficiency and also ensure that it comes from renewable sources, thereby reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
We aim to engage with young people who have a key stake in the success of the climate campaign. If you are interested in promoting events for young people and establishing educational links across the Moorlands, this is the group for you.
The Staffordshire Moorlands is an isolated community of about 100,000 people. The 3 main Towns, Biddulph, Cheadle and Leek have very poor public transport connections and the outlying villages have virtually no public transport connections.
Our focus is to raise public awareness of how overconsumption is affecting our planet and how simple lifestyle changes can alter that. We hope to help people and businesses in our area consume less and recycle, repair and repurpose more.
